Like many people from Oklahoma, part of Starks' ancestry is Cherokee. Along with fry bread and grape dumplings, wild onions are a traditional Native American dish. The Cherokees' unique language and syllabary give additional texture to the crucible that was San Francisco during the Vietnam War.
